The After Eight shot recipe is a classic Creme de Menthe and Baileys shot that is layered to look even cooler.

Why you’ll love the After Eight Shot

I am a huge fan of mint chocolate (my favorite ice cream is mint choc chip) and this shot is the perfect mix of sweet and creamy for me.

If you love mint chocolate candies such as After Eight mints, you will find this shot one of the easiest to drink. Not only is it super simple to make but it looks impressive when served to guests too.

Plus, as it is not one of the most well-known shots, it will give you a little bit of mixologist clout too.

This co*cktail is perfect for the holidays, or any time you’re in the mood for something festive and fun.

After 8 Shot Ingredients

It’s all about the layering. A layered shot is a drink that has two or more layers of liquor that do not mix when poured into a glass.

Layered shots are always popular because they look great, I’ve made a few such as theTraffic Light Shot and theFestive Santa Shot.

The layering process begins by pouring the first ingredient into the shot glass, then carefully layering the next ingredient on top with no spillage between them so they can’t mix together.

Repeat this process until you have reached your desired height.

Here are the ingredients you will need.

  • Kahlua (Tia Maria can be used as substitute)
  • Creme de Menthe
  • Baileys Irish Cream

The great thing about this shot is all you need are shot glasses and a steady hand. No co*cktail mixer or blender are required.

I use a bartender spoon to help with this part of the pouring process but you can use a teaspoon and some even use the side of a butter knife.

How To Make An After 8 Shot

Step 1:Pour the Kahlua

After Eight Shot Recipe (4)

Fill your glass about a third of the way up with Kahlua.

Step 2: Second layer

After Eight Shot Recipe (5)

Slowly pour the Creme de Menthe into the shot glass using a bartender spoon or a teaspoon to guide you. Try to pour it on the side of the glass to make it less likely to mix with the Kahlua.

You want the Creme de Menthe to fill another third of your shot glass.

Step 3: Third and last layer

Again using a bartender spoon to assist, carefully add the Baileys to fill your glass.

Rest your shot for a few minutes or two before you serve it to let the layers settle.

Bear in mind that you likely won’t get three clear layers like with shots such as theMexican Flag Shot.

With this shot recipe, the Creme de Menthe will be a smaller layer just peaking out from the Baileys and Kahlua.

How To Garnish Your Chocolate Mint Shot

As you can see from the photos, I went simple and garnished my glass with half of an After Eight chocolate.

Just cut in half diagonally with a knife and then make a small slit in the chocolate so that it balances on your glass.

After Eight Shot

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Additional Time: 1 minute

Total Time: 4 minutes

This chocolate and mint shot recipe tastes exactly like an After Eight dinner mint. It is the perfect dessert drink when you fancy something extra special.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 oz Kahlua
  • 2/3 oz Green Creme de Menthe
  • 2/3 oz Baileys Irish Test

Instructions

  1. Slow pour the Kahlua into the shot glass as your first layer
  2. Gently add the Creme de Menthe using a bartender spoon or teaspoon to help guide and assist in the pouring. This is your second layer.
  3. Third layer is the Baileys. Using the same bartender spoon or teaspoon, slowly and gently add to the shot glass.

Notes

You can use clear Creme de Menthe but you won't get the same great layered look as with the green version.

Let the shot rest for a few minutes before serving so that the layers can become more defined.
